Meet Estelle Cormier, RMT
Just like Estelle’s massages, the beach can be a serene place to be.
Each week at Peak Wellness Centre, we are highlighting one of our RMT’s in a series to celebrate our amazing team and help people in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge find your next practitioner.
Welcome, Estelle!
Estelle Cormier is a former Registered Nurse, who studied massage therapy at Westcoast College of Massage Therapy in Vancouver and graduated in 1992.
“My basic philosophy is that people need to relax enough to get into the state of rest to help heal themselves.”
Since then, she’s been a practicing Registered Massage Therapist in Vancouver and added Pitt Meadows, when she started at Peak Wellness Centre two years ago.
A former geriatric-specialty nurse, Estelle comes to massage therapy with a passion to help her patients relax and heal. The human body is a wonderful thing, given the chance to release tensions, the natural rejuvenating functions in the body can mobilize.
An oasis in the bustle of daily life, Estelle focuses on a calm, relaxing atmosphere to encourage her patients to de-stress and rest.
Her therapeutic massage facilitates healthy function by focusing on gently mobilizing soft-tissue adhesions.
What does this mean? Estelle’s registered massages use less oil & lotions, as she focuses on a solid but gentle grip on muscle groupings.
Your comfort matters, so Estelle encourages neutral but comfortable positions on the table, to further facilitate recouperative rest.
Estelle is a Pitt Meadows local and loves dogs…
“My basic philosophy is that people need to relax enough to get into the state of rest to help heal themselves.” Estelle feels she is a catalyst for recuperation. “I feel passionate about helping patients post-surgery (once medically cleared to do so), about easing the aches and pains of the elderly and people with chronic health concerns.”
Estelle’s treatment room is an oasis promoting a moment of serenity in our usually chaotic lives.
One of her regulars chimed in, “I always know I’m going to leave more rested, feeling a little taller and ready for my day. Estelle is a wonderworker. I have a hectic life, and this is a moment of serenity in my month.”
If you or anyone you know would benefit from Estelle’s methods and her focus on post-surgery soreness, geriatrics, chronic pain/illness and recuperative relaxation, here are a few tips from Estelle’s pre-massage routine.
Pre-Massage Routine
When you get to Peak Wellness Centre, come on in, say hi to our reception team of Tracy and Lis and sit in our comfy waiting area, until Estelle comes to get you.
It’s best to be clean, and avoid heavy perfumes. Those of us with long hair usually put our hair up. Don’t panic if you forget a hair tie, Estelle has never-used extras in-room.
Comfortable clothing is usually preferred, if for no other reason than… well… your comfort.
The same consideration goes to silencing your phone, if possible. We’re here to help you rejuvenate, and a few minutes without texts or calls is definitely a benefit.
Estelle checks in with each patient, to discuss areas to focus on during the massage. Please do tell her about any trick knees, old injuries or sore spots.
If you prefer music, now’s the time to let Estelle know. She normally massages in silence, to limit distraction and give her patients a serene environment.
Enjoy. Remember, communication is key and an RMT does appreciate open communication of any shifting requirements.
Post-Massage Routine
Hydration, hydration, hydration.
Water is important to help flush out the tissues & byproducts of inflammation from the massage.
“During the massage, we are trying to rehydrate the tissue, so please drink plenty of water afterwards. That hydration has to come from somewhere.” Estelle said, “And remember to take a minute to reacclimatize after a massage, get up slowly. There’s no rush.”
Other than a lovely and welcome chat, Estelle usually massages in silence, to limit distraction and give her patients a serene and somnific environment.
Estelle’s top tips for clients to maintain muscle health between massage therapy visits?
A Little Walk… is what we’re designed for. Make sure you’re getting up and moving around throughout the day. A little walk, or fresh air, is a huge perk of being in Natural Pitt Meadows.
Tennis ball in a sock: Need to do your own trigger point releases between appointments? Grab a tennis ball, put it in a sock for easier handling, and put it between the wall and your trigger point. Lean into it. It should feel like a good ache, don’t go too far.
Stretch out: “I think people can benefit a lot from adding stretches into their daily routine. Whether an athlete, an old lady doing chair stretches, or anything in between.”
Estelle works Wednesday & Thursday at Peak Wellness Centre, with morning, afternoon and evening appointments available.
As with all RMT’s at Peak Wellness Centre, Estelle direct bills to multiple extended benefits insurance policies, including Pacific Blue Cross, Manulife, Empire Life, Canada Life, Sunlife, Green Shield, Desjardins, Chamber of Commerce, and others via TelusHealth.
Estelle does not take ICBC or WorkSafe claims.
“I always know I’m going to leave more rested, feeling a little taller and ready for my day. Estelle is a wonderworker. I have a hectic life, and this is a moment of serenity in my month.”
